Lionel Messi (Born June 24, 1987) belongs to a working-class family in Rosario, Argentina. His father worked as a steelworker, and his mother as a cleaner.
He started playing football as a kid and got instantly recognized for his extraordinary talent. However, Messi was found to have a growth hormone deficiency when he was 11. This was a growth-stunting ailment that required costly medical care. Although River Plate (Messi's hometown club) showed interest in signing him, they refused to take care of his medical expenses. F.C Barcelona gave Messi a trial and coach Carles Rexach was so delighted that he offered Messi a contract (written on a tissue). This included paying for Messi's medical treatment in Spain.
Legacy
He currently plays for Ligue 1 club PSG and is also the captain of the Argentina national football team. Messi has won the coveted Ballon D'or trophy a record seven times. He was part of the Ballon D'or dream team announced in 2020. He also holds the record for the most number of European Golden Boots won with 6.
